Vosne Romanee Orveaux, Domaine Jean Pierre Guyon 2016

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée En Orveau 1er Cru is noticeably deeper in colour than its peers. The bouquet is more opaque and distant, demands more coaxing from the glass: dark plum, hints of oyster shell and a soupçon of blueberry. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is firm backbone here - not rigid - but certainly not pliant at the moment, though bottle age will mellow this in time. Good potential, but serious and cerebral. Rich deep purple, almost a nutty note along with the stemmy intensity. Chocolates to follow. Beautifully succulent and there is a lovely lifted thread running through the second half of the wine which delivers elegance through the chocolate note. Very persistent.
