Tasting notes

Neal Martin, vinous.com, March 2026 97

The 2022 Suduiraut conveys a sense of sophistication on the nose, very well defined and a little oakier, but there is complexity. The palate is wonderful, with superb delineation, pure botrytised fruit, gentle grip and genuine mineralité on the finish. This might well constitute the best Sauternes that you can buy in 2022. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2023 98/99

Wow. This is incredibly concentrated with such depth and power. Dried oranges. Full-bodied with some phenolic tension that frames the wine perfectly. Dried apricots and peaches. Incredible richness and freshness. Spicy and flavorful. Tastes more like a BA from Germany! 100% semillon.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent, May 2023 95/97

The 2022 Suduiraut, 100% Semillon with 190 g/l residual sugar, is pale to medium lemon-straw in color. The nose is not at all shy, bounding from the glass with exuberant notes of peach preserves, orange marmalade, lime blossoms, and candied ginger, giving way to suggestions of spice cake and honeycomb with a waft of toasted almonds. The big, rich, full-on decadent palate delivers profound stone and tropical fruit layers with compelling tension and texture, finishing very long and hedonically alluring.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, May 2023 92

Amber in colour, with tropical fruits of passion fruit and mango on the opening beats, clear depth of flavour and contrast provided by orange peel and aniseed bitterness, low acidity. Luscious, silky, powerful, enjoyable. Pierre Montégut technical director, 7hl/h yields, 70% new barrels 30% from barrels of one vintage.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, December 2024 19

Darker gold than most. Complex nose and very sweet with a patina of sophistication – very strong botrytis notes, not just sweetness. Inspiring! Drink 2026-2056.

Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, May 2023 97/99

One of the finest Sauternes I've been lucky enough to taste in some time, the 2022 Château Suduiraut is 100% Sémillon that hit 13.9% natural alcohol, with 190 grams per liter of residual sugar. Still resting in 70% new barrels, this monster of a Sauternes offers a huge nose of honeyed citrus, orange marmalade, spice, brioche, and almond paste. Full-bodied, rich, and massively concentrated, nevertheless, it somehow stays flawlessly balanced, fresh, and light on its feet.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2025 96

The 2022 Suduiraut presents a bewitching bouquet of dried honey, lanolin, saffron and light orange pith scents, all harmonious and well delineated. This might be better than I estimated from barrel. The palate is balanced with great density and weight, a viscous texture, a fine bead of acidity and a hint of passion fruit toward the intense finish. Outstanding. (190 g/l residual sugar)

Neal Martin, vinous.com, May 2023 93/95

The 2022 Suduiraut comes from a quick and late harvest in October (three tries between 17 and 27 October with some passerillé grapes in September). Bunches were affected by botrytis but did not concentrate, at least not until a period of wind and warmth. Wild honey, quince and touches of marmalade on the nose, this opens nicely in the glass. The palate is pure and viscous in texture, with marmalade, again, and dried honey. Very open and approachable on the finish. Not profound, but quite delicious. Christian Seely said he drank this for breakfast the previous day - why not? 2025-2055
