Tasting notes

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (205), March 2013 89

Another sleeper of the vintage, Senejac's 2010 (a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc with a touch of Petit Verdot) exhibits wonderful intensity, an opaque purple color, and opulent blackberry and blueberry fruit along with hints of charcoal, white chocolate and graphite. This lush, heady, rich wine is a considerable over-achiever from this property in the northern Medoc that can be drunk over the next 6-8 years. A member of the Alliance des Cru Bourgeois du Medoc.

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, April 2011 86/88+

This is one of the few samples that is relatively closed on the nose but it gradually opens with blackcurrant and briary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry, powdery in texture, a little overdone on the oaky finish. It may merit a higher mark after bottling. Tasted April 2011.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2011 89/90

Lots of fresh herb and currant character on the nose and palate. Full body. Soft tannins. Best than 2009.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2011 16.5

Dark crimson but not too blue. Quite rich and complete. Lovely texture and some real vitality. Great balance.

Derek Smedley MW, April 2011 84/86

Sweet fruit on the nose is overtaken by the oak. There does not seem to be enough fruit to cope with firm tannins rather obvious acidity and oak.

Steven Spurrier, Decanter.com, April 2011 16.5

Deep, compact yet complex flavours, a very elegant southern Haut-Médoc with a good future. Drink 2014-22.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194), May 2011 87/90

Pontet-Canet's brilliant proprietor, Alfred Tesseron, has begun to look after the wines of Senejac and the result is a tasty, elegant 2010 offering copious berry fruit notes intermixed with hints of cedarwood and spice. This cuvee should be drinkable upon release and evolve for a decade.
