Tasting notes

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com (227), October 2016 90

The 2013 Rauzan-Segla has an elegant bouquet with blackberry and briary scents as well as a subtle violet scent that gently unfurls in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite an attractive, pastille-like entry, decent weight in the mouth with a harmonious, nonchalant, quite detailed finish that will leave you wanting another sip. If you insist upon a Margaux from this vintage - here is where to come.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, March 2023 90

Tawny rose in colour, pale around the edges, with grilled oak and crushed rose aromatics. This continues to deliver autumnal raspberry fruit and fresh acidities. A little tight in structure, delicate with a soft, quick slide to the finish. 32hl/h yield, 60% new oak, 3.5ph, harvest September 30 to October 14. Tasted twice in the same week.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (214), August 2014 89/91

Thirty-nine percent of the production made it into the 2013 Rauzan Segla, a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. One of the stars of the appellation, it reveals fatness and texture, which were not easy to achieve in this vintage. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by loads of black currant, licorice and smoky oak in the background. Medium-bodied with sweet tannin and good acidity that provides uplift and vibrancy, this successful 2013 can be consumed over the next decade or more.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2014 91/92

A 2013 with a firm and silky tannin texture and fresh and clean fruit. Medium to full body, with lovely textured mouth feel and a long finish. Savory and delicate.

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, April 2014 89/91

The grand vin has a fine bouquet, not complex but clean and fresh with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, nicely integrated oak. It needs a little more delineation although it does appear to gain clarity with encouragement. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, perhaps a little more rustic than usual but with good weight. Fine red fruit, linear and masculine, this deserves two or three years in bottle after release. Tasted April 2014.
