Tasting notes

William Kelley, Decanter.com, February 2017 93

A musky bouquet of ripe melon, peach, smoke and toasted wheat introduces an expansive palate with a generous, glossy attack but a focussed, mineral mid-palate and finish. In its alliance of tension and amplitude this is classic Vergisson—and Guffens. Drink 2016 - 2030.

Derek Smedley MW, DerekSmedleyMW.co.uk, October 2016 94

Orange blossom, white flowers the nose is fragrant smoky the start of the palate fresh and mineral but it fills out in the middle with rich fruit concentration depth of flavour the fleshy mid sweetness is underpinned by freshness the back palate lean the finish tense with flint and mineral. 2018-23

Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (64), October 2016 91

Moderate wood does not dominate the ripe orchard fruit aromas of pear and apple compote that marry into very rich medium-bodied and succulent middle weight flavors that display real volume before culminating in an agreeably dry, stony and utterly delicious finish. This solidly complex effort should be quite good with 3 to 4 years of bottle age. 2019+

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (228), December 2016 91

The 2015 Pouilly-Fuissé La Roche comes from shallow limestone soils and sees 25% new oak for seven months, plus a few months in concrete tank. It has a subtle bouquet with fresh pear and Granny Smith scents, a granitic element that becomes evident with aeration. The palate is lively and fresh on the entry, brisk and mineral-driven, with lovely salinity on the finish that keeps you coming back for another sip. Recommended.
