Tasting notes

Neal Martin, vinous.com, April 2024 90/92

The 2023 Moulin Saint-Georges was picked from September 21 to 29 and matured for 18 months in new oak. The élevage shapes this Saint-Émilion nicely. It’s a little woody at first, but that dissipates nicely with a few swirls of the glass, revealing a refreshing, marine-influenced bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth entry, quite a sensual and fleshy Moulin Saint-Georges, though the new oak is quite vocal and dominates the finish. There’s good potential here, but I would like more terroir to come through once in bottle.

Yohan Castaing, RobertParker.com, April 2026 92+

Notes of dark cherries, cassis and smoke, accented by a delicate smoky nuance, introduce the 2023 Moulin St Georges, a medium- to full-bodied wine that is round and structured, juicy and enveloping, built around a fleshy core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and concluding with a long, saline finish. The blend—85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc—has gained depth and sweetness during élevage. Drink 2028-2038.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2024 93/94

The tannins provide a powdery and layered sense to this, spreading across the palate. It's full and layered with firm depth and length. Blueberries and crush stones. Four-square. Some limestone with the clay. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent, May 2024 90/92

A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Moulin Saint-Georges has a deep garnet-purple color. It features fragrant notions of rose bud tea and cinnamon stick, leading to a core of red and black plums, charcoal, and bay leaves. The medium-bodied palate offers refreshing red fruit and baking spice flavors, with a lively line and plush tannins, finishing on an earthy note.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, March 2026 94

Love the energy and the vibrancy of this, totally delicious, still needs another few years to really show its full character, but this is luscious already, blueberry, raspberry and redcurrant fruits, No longer classified, as they took all of their estates out, yes??

James Lawther MW, JancisRobinson.com, May 2024 16+

85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.Round, fresh and smooth with a red-berry nuance and well-handled tannins. Oak shows a little at the moment but should integrate. Promises well. (JL) 13.9%Drink 2029 – 2038

Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, April 2024 90/92

The Vauthier family produced a slightly oaky, complex 2023 Moulin St Georges with aromas of vanilla, spices and dark wild berries. Medium to full-bodied, dense and rich with chewy tannins and a taut, chalky texture, it’s perfectly balanced with a fleshy texture and a long, penetrating finish. This blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc will spend 18 months in new oak barrels.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, April 2024 94

Grip and length, grilled campfire smoke, slate texture, nuanced blueberry and raspberry fruits, cold ash and pumice stone. West exposure for the slopes here means cooler temperatures and lower ph, fresh acidities, helps accentuate this oyster shell salinity.
