Tasting notes

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, June 2013 97

This appears to be the synthesis of the fabulous 2001 and 2003. It shows wonderful aromas of botrytis spice, honey and citrus rind. Lots of fruit with a tropical fruit undertone of mango and papaya on the palate. Intense finish. Too excellent not to drink.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (207), June 2013 93

Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The 2005 Guiraud has a slightly more reduced bouquet compared to the 2004, with dried honey, marmalade and just a hint of petrol emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry, crisp acidity, touches of beeswax and almond defining the harmonious waxy textured finish. This needs another two or three years in the cellar, but it should evolve into a delectable Sauternes. Drink 2016 -2030. Tasted April 2013.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, March 2017 17

Tasted blind. Deep copper colour. Very sweet pear juice. Just a tad simple but correct, with a hint of cinnamon apple juice too.Drink 2017-2034

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, December 2007 91/94

Deep yellow-gold. Knockout nose offers stone fruits, ripe pineapple, marzipan and nutmeg. Very rich, ripe and chewy, with a glyceral texture and sweetness rare for this sauvignon-rich Sauternes. A core of nectar-like peach flavor is framed and lifted by a pungent minerality that accentuates the purity of the fruit. Wonderfully concentrated wine with a very long, sweet, palate-staining finish. This property was recently purchased by a group that includes Xavier Planty, Stephan von Neipperg and Olivier Bernard.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, March 2008

Delivers lots of botrytis spice, with lemon tart and cooked apple. Full-bodied, with cream, vanilla and an intense tropical fruit and honey aftertaste. Long and viscous, with a beautiful spicy finish. Best after 2014.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, March 2006 95/100

Thick and spicy, with loads of dried pineapple, lemon and honey character. Full-bodied, very sweet and long. This is layered and beautiful.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2006 16

Quite dark coppery gold. Very sweet with some green fruit acidity but not much depth. Just a little sticky rather than a very complex Sauternes. Impressive statistics, I’m sure... Good positive attack. Big and brassy. Drink 2013-22
