Graham 2024

The 2024 Vintage Port from Graham's represents 15% of the estate's production. Picking commenced at Malvedos on September 9, a little later than recent vintages due to moderate daytime temperatures, with yields just 280gm per vine. It has one of the most intense aromatics among the latest releases, with black plum, pencil box, subtle marine influences and Indian ink all delivered with fabulous delineation. The palate has exquisite balance, perfectly judged acidity, and is one of the most mineral-driven of the '24 Vintage Ports, nuanced with a dash of black pepper and graphite towards the finish. There is a completeness to this Graham's that is mesmerising. 2035-2085.

The 2024 Vintage Port was produced with a blend of 55% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, mostly from their Malvedos vineyards (but not exclusively), a 9% field blend of old vines and 6% Sousão from Quinta do Tua, another property separated from Malvedos by the Tua River. It fermented in stainless steel lagar with foot-treading robots and matured in large oak vessels for 18 months. The wine comes from very low yields, and the nose is phenomenal, very high on Touriga Nacional, with floral notes—orange blossom—a touch of resin, a typical Graham's eucalyptus/minty thing, really morish. This is a really delicious Graham's; it's a sweeter, very generous wine that tends to be velvety with good tannins and length, more powerful and concentrated. The tannins are more assertive than the Warre's, for example, and it has the grip from the Sousão. This is certainly going to be long lived. It's relatively dry at 107 grams of sugar. 71,220 bottles produced. This was last produced in 2020. Drink 2031-2070.

Grapes come from both the Cima Corgo and the Douro Superior: Quinta dos Malvedos, Quinta do Tua (old vines on stone terraces with tiny yields, plus Sousão), Quinta da Vila Velha and Quinta do Vale de Malhadas. A blend of Touriga Nacional (55%), Touriga Franca (30%), old-vine field blend (9%) and Sousão (6%), this last co-fermented with Touriga Nacional from Tua. TA 4.7 g/l, RS 107 g/l. Deep and powerful yet the velvety texture hides the power. Dark and attractively dusty as well as more floral as it opens up to layers of aroma, surprising in such a young wine. Opulent, mouth-filling though the finely dry tannins and the freshness rein it back in on the finish. Dark, pure and enticing. Drink: 2030 – 2084.

A blend from all the Graham quintas: Malvedos and Tua with Vila Velha and Vale de Malhadas, the latter in the Douro Superior, 55% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, 9% Vinha Velha and 6% Sousão: Characteristically deep and inky in colour, subdued on the nose with just a touch of heat showing through, dusty earth with mint and eucalyptus; similarly dusty, ripe and fleshy on the palate with breadth and sweetness, firm but broad ripe tannins piling up mid-palate leading to a long structured, spicy finish, again well-defined and magnificent overall. 5935 cases.
