Gevrey Chambertin VV, Domaine Fourrier 2018

A lighter but very pretty cherry to crimson colour, such grace and class. Pure fresh pinot, one could believe there were stems included, which there are not. Just the right acidity, a key part of the long and fine finish. Not more than a village, in the sense that the wine does not show the additional layering expected of a premier cru, but an extremely good one. 13% alcohol. Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted: March 2023.

A top note of pomegranate can be found on the red currant, earth and attractively spicy aromas. There is better energy as well as better delineation to the relatively refined bitter cherry-inflected finish. Lovely. Note: from Les Champs Perriers in Brochon Drink: 2025+

Revisited in bottle, Fourrier's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes mingles aromas of cherries, berries and cassis with hints of soil and warm spices, framed by a deft application of glossy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and gourmand, with a ripe core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids, it has turned out very nicely in the generous style of the vintage. 2022 - 2042
