Tasting notes

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (219), June 2015 90

The 2005 La Dame de Montrose is a gorgeous second wine. Dark ruby/purple, with sweet black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, soft tannins, and a round, generous, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, it is an excellent, soft wine to drink over the next 15 or so years. Drink 2015-2030.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, February 2009 16.5

Very dark crimson. Lots of minerals rather than fruit on the nose. Very dry tannins - I would have guessed Calon-Ségur if I thought it were here [I thought they didn't manage to get a sample of Calon-Ségur]. Pretty tough but there is some energy there too. Extremely dry finish. Could do with just a tad more freshness

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (170), April 2007 89/91

A sleeper selection, the estate’s second wine, the 2005 La Dame de Montrose, is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot. Possibly the finest second wine Montrose has yet produced, it is a full-bodied effort with supple tannins as well as surprising power, richness, and expansiveness. It will provide gorgeous drinking during its first 15 years of life.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, April 2006 89/91

Round and fruity, with lots of berry and mineral character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. Pretty.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2006 17

Exceptionally dark colour. Low-key nose but very deep and dark and concentrated. Full, sweet, round and ample, Very charming. Dry but not too tough. 13.2 per cent average alcohol with Merlot more than 14 per cent. A little bit dry and short on the finish. But hugely enjoyable even now! Drink 2013-23
