Tasting notes

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (214), August 2014 89

More evolved and sexy, the 2003 La Dame de Montrose possesses a deep plum/garnet color and notes of jammy black currants, cherries, and dusty, loamy soil undertones. Deep and medium- to full-bodied with low acidity and ripe, fully melted tannins, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 7-8 years. Drink 2014-2022

James Suckling, Wine Spectator (April 04), April 2004 89/91

Lots of ripe fruit with licorice and plum. A lovely second wine. Delicious.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, October 2010 16.5

Very deep crimson. Low-key minerality. Pretty snazzy and luscious though all still in reserve. Sinewy with mineral polish. Just a bit scrawny on the end. (Average group score: 15.9)

Michael Schuster, The World of Fine Wine (1), April 2004 15.5

Well-packed medium full wine, at once plump and firm; core of rich, gravel-backed fruit to taste, moderately complex, with a chewy tannin - good length. Excellent second wine.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (164), April 2006 89

A beautiful effort, the 2003 La Dame de Montrose exhibits plenty of structure and tannin (surprising for a second wine) as well as a deep ruby/purple color, and abundant creme de cassis notes intermixed with hints of smoke and flowers. This medium to full-bodied, ripe claret should age nicely for 10-12 years.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (158), April 2005 89/91

A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, this is an opulent, sexy, lush La Dame boasting a deep ruby/purple color, loads of black fruits, and hints of white flowers, chocolate, and earth. Round, plump, and tasty, it should be consumed during its first decade of life. It does indeed resemble its bigger sibling.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (152), April 2004 89/91

One of the finest second wines I tasted (only 13% of the production was utilized), the 2003 La Dame de Montrose, a sleeper of the vintage, exhibits a dense purple color along with sweet mulberry and blackberry fruit, a fat, opulent palate impression, and a long, richly fruity finish. It should drink well for 10-12 years.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com (April 04), April 2004 17.5

Amazing for a second wine! Very fresh nose - quite open and charming. Graet spine of thoroughtly ripe tannins. Bravo!
