Tasting notes

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (205), March 2013 90

A beautiful effort from Chasse-Spleen, this dense purple wine exhibits plenty of black currant and black cherry fruit with some licorice, roasted herbs and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and supple, the final blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot has produced a fleshy, succulent style of Chasse-Spleen to drink over the next 15+ years.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, April 2020 89

The 2010 Chasse-Spleen offers attractive blackberry, briary, cedar and pinecone aromas on the Pauillac inspired nose. Good intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a fine bead of acidity with another graphite-infused, quite sharp finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. 2021 - 2032

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, March 2011 88/89

A wine that is almost salty as well as fruity. Full, juicy and lightly chewy.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate (March 2020), March 2020 89

Made of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet colored 2010 Chasse-Spleen gives up notes of stewed plums, baked blackcurrants and blackberry compote with hints of wild sage, leather and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the fruit is drying just slightly on the palate, and it has a sturdy frame of chewy tannins, finishing herbal. 2020 - 2026

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2011 16

Dense, blackish. Creamy texture but an odd aroma. Something reminiscent of soap and perhaps some unusual oak? Pretty ripe and luscious though. If this is the quality that can be achieved in a lesser classed growth, this is a very special vintage. Just a bit drying and short on the finish.

Derek Smedley MW, April 2011 87/91

The nose is packed out with concentrated fruit all very black fruit in character. Cassis, sloe and black cherry enrich the mid palate the ripeness of the fruit giving flesh towards the back. The tannins are firm slightly holding back the fruit but the concentration wins through giving weight on the finish.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194), May 2011 88/90

A strong effort, the tannic, medium to full-bodied 2010 possesses good minerality, zesty acidity, admirable freshness and both blue and black fruits. With impressive depth and length, this pure Moulis should drink well for 15+ years.

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, November 2012 92

The Chasse Spleen 2010 has a vibrant bouquet with touches of blackberry, singed leather and cedar that is nicely defined and opens more with aeration. The palate is citrus fresh on the entry with crisp tannins. It is lively, well defined with a spice-tinged, pepper finish that lends persistency. Excellent – although like other vintages I believe this will improve further in bottle. Tasted November 2012.

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, April 2011 92/94

Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois primeur tasting. This has a lovely ripe blackberry, cassis and vanillary nose with beautifully integrated new oak. Seamless. The palate is medium-bodied with a rich, liquorice tinged entry, sappy dark berries, a touch of soy perhaps towards the finish. Unruly at the moment, ambitious and sure to make a big impression after bottling. Tasted April 2011.
