The opaque purple-colored 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is a southern Rhone masterpiece. It displays uncanny purity, remarkable delineation for a wine of such mass and density, and a multidimensional personality. There are abundant quantities of black fruits as well as definition, minerality, and notions of licorice and flowers. Because of its formidable concentration of power and tannin, patience will be required. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.
