Tasting notes

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2018 95

Impressive richness and clarity of red and dark berries. Lightly spiced-pastry aromas, too. The palate has a very crisp, polished and groomed tannin texture, as well as super fresh flavors that carry long. Great wine. Try from 2022.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, July 2019 89

The 2015 Cantemerle offers an attractive blackberry, raspberry and blueberry nose, forward and more fruit-driven than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity and gentle grip, but comes across a little pushed toward the judiciously spiced finish. Give it another couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, February 2019 15.5

Tasted blind. Dark shiny crimson. Lead pencils. Dry but some energy. A bit lean though and very dry.Drink 2023-2028

Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, November 2017 91

Based on 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the inky colored 2015 Château Cantemerle offers a terrific bouquet of black currants, smoked herbs, earth, and hints of charcoal. Ripe, concentrated, rounded, and undeniably delicious, with ripe tannin, it's a terrific vintage for Cantemerle to drink anytime over the coming 10-15 years. 2018 - 2033

Derek Smedley MW, DerekSmedleyMW.co.uk, April 2016 88/91

Rich and ripe on the nose the palate has flesh, richness depth of ripe black fruits. There is a balancing freshness a bramble bilberry mix and although quite firm at the back the tannins are fine. Sweet ripe fruit and dark chocolate gives depth on the finish.

Matthew Jukes, Matthew Jukes' Blog, April 2016 17+

Good nose and nice palate, this wine looks smart from the very first moment, showing poise and control with the oak and fruit working in perfect harmony. Dark and fairly wild but with a lovely texture and silky tannins, this is a decent wine which will reward fans of this property.

Neal Martin, March 2018 90

The 2015 Cantemerle offers classic blackberry and cedar scents on the nose, quite tertiary in style but with impressive focus. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a fine line of acidity, just the right amount of chewiness and a brisk man, lightly spiced finish. Alongside Camensac, this is another well-crafted Médoc, conservative in style, but a wine that presses the right buttons. Anticipated maturity: 2020 - 2032.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (224), April 2016 90/92

The 2015 Cantemerle is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. It offers plenty of blackberry and raspberry fruit on the nose, not the best defined that I encountered among the Haut-Médocs, but with plenty of "stuffing." The palate is medium-bodied with supple red and black fruit on the entry matched with a fine thread of acidity. There is a pleasing crescendo in the mouth driven by that Merlot content and it finishes with some swagger. This is a very fine Cantemerle exuding joie-de-vivre that I can see doling out plenty of drinking pleasure over the next decade and beyond. Tasted thrice with consistent notes. Drink 2019-2033.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, March 2016 95/96

Wow. Real Cantermerle with stupendous power and depth. Mineral, stone and violet character. Full and structure. It starts slowly and then goes on for minutes. Perhaps best ever?

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, November 2017 16

Very fragrant with lots of just-ripe-enough fruit. Not pushy. Undertow of slightly green tannins. These may mellow with time but be sure to serve food with this wine to tame those tannins!Drink 2022-2032

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2016 16

Deep crimson. Brimming with fruit on the nose but there is rather less on the palate. At most medium weight with some oak in evidence but a pretty Cantemerle with good ripe fruit.Drink 2021-2030
