Tasting notes

Neal Martin, vinous.com, August 2023 92

The 2013 Doisy-Daëne showed better than the bottle poured at the vertical two years earlier. This has a fresh and perfumed nose with pressed white flower, lemon verbena and light minerally scents - a touch of white linen and less of the honeysuckle. The palate is well balanced with superb weight and tension, not the most complex Barsac, yet focused with a fresh, saline finish that counters the botrytised fruit. Very fine. (Drink between 2023-2038)

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2016 93

A tight and compressed young Sauternes with masses of botrytis spice character of white pepper and mushroom dust. Dried apples and lemons. Full body, yet agile and lively. Sweet yet fresh finish. Structured young Sauternes. Drink in 2020.

Derek Smedley MW, April 2014 89/93

The nose has a lovely mix of fruits rich ripe apricot some candied citrus peel and slightly fresher tropical fruits. Rich and fleshy on the start of the palate the mid palate is lighter yet there is richness at the back with fleshy depth on the finish.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (212), May 2014 93/95

Denis Dubourdieu has a created a fine Doisy-Daene, with attractive white peach and honeysuckle on the precise bouquet, which exudes wonderful transparency. The palate is very well-defined with fine acidity, the oak deftly integrated. It gradually builds in the mouth: harmonious and refined with great composure towards the long and satisfying finish. This is one of the finest Barsac wines of the vintage.

A wine with dried-apple and papaya character. Medium body, medium sweetness and a simple finish.
