Tasting notes

Neal Martin, vinous.com, April 2026 92

The 2016 Ségla has another bright and vivid bouquet with black fruit, black olive and light tobacco scents. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, fine delineation, silky-smooth, with a tensile and prolonged finish that urges you back for more. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. 2029-2050

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent, December 2022 92

The 2016 Segla is medium to deep garnet in color. It prances out with pretty, open-knit scents of kirsch, black raspberries, and rose petals, plus suggestions of crushed cloves, aniseed, and Ceylon tea. Medium-bodied, the palate is delicately styled, with bags of poise and freshness, supported by silky tannins, finishing with a floral lift.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, February 2020 18

Tasted blind. Rich and rather opulent nose. Simple and easy with good refreshing raciness. Could be Rauzan-Ségla? Good and complete. Really zesty. Likely to be VGV.Drink 2025 – 2045

Neal Martin, vinous.com, January 2025 91

The 2016 Ségla is drinking beautifully. Black cherries, cassis and violets on the nose immediately nail this as a Margaux, quite plush and seductive. The palate has wonderful balance and saturated tannins. It’s silky smooth with a sweet but poised finish that slips down the throat with ease. This is exactly what second labels should be for.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, August 2020 90

The 2016 Ségla has a well-defined bouquet whose discreet rose petal and iris aromas lift the black cherry and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and quite lively and spicy, leading into a slightly metallic finish, which I suspect will ebb with time. There is good length here. An elegant and quite persistent Margaux. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. 2021 - 2036
