Tasting notes

William Kelley, RobertParker.com (April 2022), April 2022 91+

Exhibiting aromas of rich currant fruit and creamy new oak, the 2019 Siran is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully chewy finish. This is a flavorful, nicely balanced wine that will reward a bit of bottle age. Drink 2025-2045.

Neal Martin, vinous.com (Southwold), February 2023 94

The 2019 Siran has a classically-styled, reassuringly precise and focused bouquet with plenty of mineralité and tension. The oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine precision and balance, still a bit of oak to be soaked up here but it will with time. Wonderful focus and boasting greater persistence than its peers, this Margaux is firing on all cylinders. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drink 2026-2028.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, December 2021 94

Lovely, soft tannins with a juicy and flavorful palate of currants, slightly toasted oak and chocolate. It’s full-bodied and layered with a plush texture and a long, flavorful finish. Warm and rather flamboyant for the vintage. Try in 2025.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate (July Week ), July 2020 93/95

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Siran slips easily out of the glass with fragrant notes of violets, blackberry pie, fruitcake, blackcurrant pastilles and dried lavender with hints of kirsch and chocolate mint. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with perfumed black fruit layers, knitted with a solid foundation of firm, fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note. Punching well above its weight, this is a very impressive showing for Siran! 2024 - 2050

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, February 2023 16+

Tasted blind. Much deeper, darker crimson than most. Flashier than most Margaux. Not so typical. Lots of extraction – sort of halfway to a St-Émilion. Tough tannins on the end. A long-term bet that others liked more than me. 14%Drink 2028– 2039

Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, April 2022 93

One of the finest vintages I've tasted from this château, the 2019 Château Siran has a great bouquet of ripe black cherries, blackberries, scorched earth, leather, and cedary herbs. With medium to full-bodied richness, polished tannins, and outstanding overall balance, it's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and drink nicely over the following 10-15 years. It's an impressive Margaux.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2022 94

The 2019 Siran has a very well-defined bouquet of pure black cherry and raspberry fruit, crushed violets and iris petals, and seamlessly integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied, structured and crisp, with fine tannins, impressive delineation and plenty of freshness on the saline finish. One of the best Siran releases in recent years. 2024 - 2060

Neal Martin, vinous.com, June 2020 93/95

The 2019 Siran has a drop dead gorgeous bouquet with pure blackberry and boysenberry fruit. Touches of crushed violet identify it as a Margaux. The oak is neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is very well balanced with succulent tannins, fleshy and sweet yet with depth and grip. Veins of blue fruit appears towards the spicy finish. This Siran boasts one of the longest finishes that I have ever encountered from this estate. Seriously good. 2024 - 2060

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, May 2020 94/95

A dense, beautifully integrated red with blackberry, blueberry and chocolate character. It’s full-bodied with ripe tannins and a fresh, focused finish. Shows lots of blue fruit and flowers at the end. Siran does it again, after a gorgeous 2018.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, December 2021 17

47% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.Despite the concentrated colour this is much less concentrated on the palate than the Rauzan-Ségla. But for Siran this is clearly a great vintage. So sinewy and ambitious for a Siran! Great balance and freshness. Likely to be GV. 14%Drink 2026 – 2040
