Tasting notes

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2025 97

Crystal clear, but with quite impressive concentration. Limes, minerals, creamy fruit, sliced apples and touches of golden kiwis and ripe gooseberries. Pretty full-bodied and weighty, with creamy flavors and fresh, balanced acidity throughout. Long and attractive, with fine phenolics at the end adding interest and complexity. Drink or hold.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2025 92

The 2022 Pape Clément Blanc has an attractive nose with honeysuckle candle wax, mandarin and lanolin aromas. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity and tropical notes of passionfruit and guava, which furnish rather than define the wine. It offers fine tension on the finish with a slightly honeyed aftertaste. This will be difficult to resist in its youth. 2026 - 2045

Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, April 2023 90/93

A blend of 63% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Sémillon and 2% Muscadelle, the 2022 Pape Clément Blanc exhibits aromas of spices, spring flowers, lemon, peach and hints of jasmine and grapefruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and satiny, with an oaky frame. The finish is long, persistent and elegantly spicy.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, May 2023 93

If you had to pick one wine that would not be afraid of the excess of the vintage, it would be Pape Clement, and certainly here they have leaned into it without being overpowered. Plenty of citrus, lemon curd, white peach and sage. Structured also, with great balance within the estate signature, helped by an attractive bitter edge on the finish. 35hl/h yield, harvest August 28 to September 2. Tasted twice.

Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, December 2024 17.5

Richer and more oaky than most in this line-up. Creamy oatmeal overlays the rich fruit. Fruit-filled but also deep and long. The oak is present but perfectly integrated. 13.5%. Drink 2026 – 2037.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, May 2023 92/94

The 2022 Pape Clément Blanc was cropped at 35hL/ha between 28 August and 2 September and matured in under 20% new oak. It is very fragrant on the nose, with lemon verbena, white peach and honeysuckle scents. Really fine definition and sense of focus. The palate is well balanced, a little steelier and more linear than recent vintages with plenty of tension on the saline finish. This should age well in bottle.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2023 98/99

The purity of fruit is really impressive here with crushed apples, pears and lemons. Some mineral and stone, too. Honeysuckle. Very clear and bright. The palate is full and very direct and focused, with a long, salty dried lemon finish and minerality. Fine phenolics at the end. 63% sauvignon blanc, 35% semillon and 2% muscadelle.
