Tasting notes
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194), May 201187
Sweet plum, deep cherry and currant notes as well as underbrush and earthiness are all present in this elegant, mid-weight wine, which has good freshness, decent acidity, and ripe tannin. It should drink nicely for up to 7-8 years.
Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 201886
The 2008 Potensac has a reserved, cedar and pencil lead bouquet, a little subdued despite coaxing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rough tannin, quite rustic and angular in style, plus I would have wanted more flesh to come through on the finish. So-so. 2018 - 2025
James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, April 200988/91
Offers currant and blackberry. Very aromatic. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and bright acidity. Very fresh. The best Potensac in years
Derek Smedley MW, April 200989/92
The nose has the influence of ripe black fruit cassis battling with plum for dominance. Bilberry emerges and its freshness combined with the tannins gives structure and brightness towards the back. The ripeness of the fruit shows on the finish, lots of lush plum.
Robert Parker, RobertParker.com (182), April 200990/92
Perhaps the finest Potensac made since the 1982, the 2008 is undoubtedly a sleeper of the vintage. Harvested between October 4-16, this blend of 42% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Cabernet Franc was fashioned from modest yields of 44 hectoliters per hectare. While lacking the prestige of a grand cru classe, it offers an amazing display of sweet black cherry and cassis fruit intermixed with notions of earth and spice. Good purity, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, a seamless balance, ripe tannins, and fresh acids result in an amazing wine that should sell for a song. It should evolve for a decade or more.
