Chenin Blanc Die Kliphuis, Roodekrantz 2021

Roodekrantz’s Die Kliphuis vineyard was planted in 1977. It’s south-facing, with sandy, decomposed granite soils, and extremely low-yielding vines. Grapes were handpicked and pressed before being fermented and matured in old oak barrels with an extended period of lees ageing. Greg Sherwood MW: High tones of green herbs, hops, fynbos and spice with sappy yellow fruits, pithy minerality and a fine balanced acidity. A very exciting wine with subtlety and complexity but without shouting. Beverley Blanning MW: Lifted acacia and almond scent. Peachy, lime-tinged fruit, with chalky texture and bracing acidity. Juicy and thrilling, this displays fabulous balance and concentration. Roger Jones: Intense stone fruit, juicy and forward, ripe, vibrant acidity, lime leaf, kaffir lime, yuzu. It’s a bright, clean wine with a nutty complexion. (Drink between 2023-2035)
