The 1973 Rivesaltes has quite a spirituous nose, perhaps too much for my liking as it partially occludes the fruit profile. I would swear this is a Madeira if I had it blind. The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious and quite tangy with a viscous opening, marmalade and quince notes and a dash of chilli on the finish. If you can abide that feisty nose, this is delicious. Drink 2025-2038.

Lots of acidity, grip and length. Really racy and textured. Still a little bit of tannin! But that adds interest. (JR)
