Tasting notes

Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, February 2022 93

The 2019 Domaine des Cambes is bursting at the seams with super-ripe dark cherry, plum, espresso, licorice, menthol and chocolate. This rich, boisterous Blaye is full of energy. There's real depth and energy here, not to mention tons of character. Dried herb, leather, cedar and tobacco linger on the ample, beautifully textured finish. 2024 - 2034

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2022 91

The 2019 Domaine des Cambes has a tightly wound bouquet that needs more time in the glass, opening to offer black cherries, boysenberry and a touch of wild heather, almost Burgundian in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, very well-judged acidity, and flavors of black plum mixed with soy, white pepper and clove that linger on the finish. Very fine. 2024 - 2038

James Lawther MW, JancisRobinson.com, June 2020 16

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Barrel sample.Fruit pushed to the edge of overripeness but it works. Bright, dark-fruit notes with toasted overlay. Palate sweet, silky and gourmand, bringing a freshness to the finish. Clearly surpasses its appellation status. (JL)Drink 2024 – 2030

Neal Martin, vinous.com, June 2020 90/92

The 2019 Domaine des Cambes is well defined on the nose with crushed iris petal, sand and incense combining nicely with the opulent black fruit. A touch of sage develops with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a creamy textured opening belying the structure that lies underneath. Veins of dark chocolate appear towards the finish that retains impressive delineation and it certainly has length. It will need 3-5 years just to assimilate the oak. 2024 - 2038
