Tasting notes

William Kelley, Wine Advocate, April 2023 92/94

Mingling aromas of sweet cherries and cassis with notions of licorice, espresso roast and spices, the 2022 Roc de Cambes is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a broad-shouldered profile, framed by powdery tannins, and concluding with a chalky finish. This is always the most structured wine in the Mitjaville portfolio.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2025 93

The 2022 Roc de Cambes remains perfumed and sensual on the nose with black cherries, peony and iris flower alongside a hint of cassis that blossoms in the glass. This has wonderful delineation. The medium-bodied palate has grainy tannins and comes across slightly more toasty than the Domaine des Cambes, leading to a tensile finish of black pepper, sage and graphite. This is the most linear and Left-Bank-fashioned cuvée from the Mitjavile family this year, and it has bags of potential. 2030 - 2055

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent, May 2023 91/93+

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Roc de Cambes is deep garnet-purple in color. It sashays out with fragrant notes of Chinese five spice, sandalwood, dark chocolate, and licorice, leading to a core of plum preserves and warm cassis. The full-bodied palate is concentrated, rich, and seductive, with velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with great length.

James Lawther MW, JancisRobinson.com, May 2023 16.5+

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cask sample.Deep colour. Aromatically intense – dark fruit with a menthol note. Gourmand fruit on the palate, the chocolaty oak integrated. Climbs a rung in terms of texture of tannin (compared with Domaine de Cambes), the sensation velvety and smooth. Chalky finish, the alcohol just perceptible. (JL) 15%Drink 2028– 2038
