Tasting notes

William Kelley, Wine Advocate, March 2025 93

The 2022 Meyney has turned out very well, offering up aromas of crème de cassis, bay leaf and pencil shavings, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy palate that's rich and seamless, exhibiting an integration of tannin that can't always be taken for granted at this address. In fact, this appears to be the best Meyney produced for quite some time, and it's well worth seeking out. 2030 - 2055

Neal Martin, vinous.com, March 2026 94

The 2022 Meyney has a more flattering, perhaps flamboyant bouquet than the Tronquoy, though it is just as well defined, the fruit a little richer and fuller. The palate is medium-bodied but with assertive tannins, layered red and black fruit laced with white pepper and allspice. Quite rounded on the finish, where it succeeds is in maintaining delineation and not going gung-ho. This Meyney may well be meliorating in bottle... one to watch. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2025 95

This always represents good value. Spicy, stony and floral at the same time with deep blue fruit and hints of pine, incense and cloves. Veins of tannins show a mineral verve. This is firm, powerful and long. A bit too young at this stage but already showing potential. A very good vintage. Drink after 2028.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent, May 2023 91/93

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Meyney comes skipping out with delightful notes of wild blueberries, redcurrant jelly, and juicy plums, leading to hints of chocolate mint and lilacs. The medium to full-bodied palate is generously fruited, with a solid frame of grainy tannins to match, finishing with just enough freshness.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, May 2023 95

A vineryard that should perform strongly in this kind of vintage, because located right next to the river for air conditioning, with a mix of gravel with clear clay sections to retain freshness, and it's definitely one to look out for. Layers of redcurrant, raspberry and blackcurrant fruits, juicy mouthwatering finish, peony, pencil lead, orange peel, 3.75ph. Certainly this is a great example of Meyney. Hubert de Boüard consultant. A buy.

James Lawther MW, JancisRobinson.com, May 2023 17+

58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot. 37 hl/ha. Cask sample.Deep, bright, crimson hue. Lively and lifted with a touch of well-integrated vanilla oak. Dark fruit and pencil lead as it opens. Ripe and juicy but keen and long as well. Plenty of polished tannin behind. Good acidity and refreshment. Dry but not drying finish. Poised and really rather fine. Clear potential. (JL) 13.5%Drink 2030– 2047

William Kelley, Wine Advocate, April 2023 91/93+

Opening in the glass with aromas of sweet dark berries, licorice and petals, the 2022 Meyney is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit girdled by sweet but firm tannins. Pure and taut, it is a strong effort that will require a bit of patience.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2025 92

The 2022 Meyney has an intense, finely delineated bouquet with blackberry, bilberry, loam and light briny scents that unfold with confidence. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant, with firm tannins. It is not dissimilar to the Lilian Ladouys in style, though there is a touch more finesse and pepperiness on the finish. It has good potential, but needs time. 2030 - 2065

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2023 94/95

Impressive concentration here with compact tannin structure. Medium- to full-bodied. Firm and steady with a long, velvety finish. Minerally and crunchy.
