Langoa Barton 2007

Blueish purple still! A certain attractive silkiness - not as solid as, say, Lagrange. Lovely texture and freshness even if not much density and succulence. Dry finish but great balance and energy. But not for the long term.Drink 2013-2020. Date tasted 20th Oct 09.

Medium ruby-red. Black raspberry, smoke and sexy oak on the nose. Supple and pliant, with rather soft chocolate and plum flavors lifted by a floral nuance. On the light side (the alcohol is a modest 12.5%) and lacking a bit of thrust, but gracefully made and likely to give early pleasure.

The nose has lots of power, very black fruit rich. On the palate cassis is fleshed out by black plum, brightened by some bilberry, the fresher flavours give it an attractive elegance. Lots of fruit shows at the back and will add to the weight given time.

Fine black-red, precise but ripe blackcurrant fruit with slight cedary elements, elegant and long flavours, no greenness nor hollowness, and very good in the leaner 2007 style. Drink 2013-22. 4 stars.

A blend of 77.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 7.5% Cabernet Franc. This has a ripe blackberry, violet tinged nose that is perhaps lacking the clarity and vigour that it often shows at this stage. A touch of seashells become apparent in the glass. The palate is full-bodied, quite sinewy comparative to other Saint Juliens with good concentration and purity of fruit with no signs of under-ripeness. The Langoa 2007 has a persistent finish with good depth and focus with blackberry and cedar to the fore. Very fine, as usual. Tasted April 2008

Very dark crimson. Sweet blackberries on the nose – much riper than most. Very flashy! Tastes like Rolland style even if I can’t immediately think of a St-Julien where Rolland consults. Blind, this didn’t taste like a wine from the Barton stable to me…, although it was certainly much more luscious than the Léoville Barton. Drink 2011-15
