Tasting notes

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194), May 2011 92

A big time sleeper of the vintage and a terrific success for Fieuzal, the 2008 is a wine to buy given its realistic price. Dense plum/purple-colored with a soaring bouquet of blue and black fruits, unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings and spring flowers, it is a suave, savory, medium to full-bodied, remarkably silky, appealing wine to enjoy over the next 12-15 years. Bravo!

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, January 2012 90

Tasted ex-château and single blind in Southwold. The de Fieuzal 2008 has an ephemeral bouquet that wafts from the glass, nice purity with blackberry, truffle oil and raspberry fruits, but it needs more vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins on the entry. Well made with a very pure finish, although there is something a little predictable about it. Still, this is technically a very sound Pessac though not one to enflame the emotions. Tasted January 2012.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, April 2009 87/90

Minerals, violets and other flowers. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and very clean fruit. Minerally and fresh on the finish

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2009 15.5

Very dark with a high level of volatile acidity. A bit brutal with drying tannins on the finish. Over- extracted? Too much.

Robert Parker, RobertParker.com (182), April 2009 90/93

A brilliant effort from De Fieuzal, the dense purple-hued 2008 exhibits aromas of sweet cassis, black cherry liqueur, licorice, smoke, and herbs, sweet tannin, a full-bodied, powerful, concentrated mouthfeel, and a long, impressively pure, well-textured finish. It is one of the finest wines made at this estate over the last two decades. Moreover, it should drink well for 25 years.

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, April 2009 90/92

This has an attractive nose of blackberry, boysenberry and a touch of limestone. Good definition and elegance. The palate is ripe, medium-bodied, firm tannins, well balanced with a fine sense of earthiness, of being Pessac-Léognan. Tasted twice with consistent notes: this is an excellent effort. Tasted April 2009
