Tasting notes

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (219), June 2015 93

A gorgeously dense ruby/purple-colored wine, the 2005 La Fleur de Boüard is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged nearly 20 months in new oak. A big wine (14% alcohol), it is rich, concentrated, full-bodied and performs far above its official pedigree. It can be drunk over the next 10+ years. Drink 2015 - 2025.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2006 16.5

Intense sweet ripe damsons with edge of liquorice. Dense and moreish, with fine firm tannins - just a little bit thick on the palate at the moment, but freshness comes through the toasty finish. Drink 2010-20

James Lawther MW, Decanter.com, April 2006 17

Big, rich, powerful wine. Modern black colour. Chewy dark fruit with a firm tannic structure. Little alcohol on the finish but has balance. Drink 2010-2018.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (176), April 2008 89

The 2005 La Fleur de Bouard (85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc) exhibits a dense ruby/purple hue, relatively high tannins, medium to full body, and beautiful richness as well as density. The ultimate reference point for what can be achieved in Lalande de Pomerol, this property, owned by Hubert de Bouard, continues to turn out fabulous wines

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (164), April 2006 90/92

From the personal estate of one of Bordeaux’s most influential tastemakers, Hubert de Bouard, the 2005 La Fleur de Bouard is potentially one of the finest yet produced ... and that’s saying something given the consistent quality. A blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, its blue/black/purple color is accompanied by beautiful aromas of charcoal, melted licorice, espresso, blackberries, and blue fruits. Deep, opulent, and full-bodied, with sweet tannin as well as a powerful finish, it will require consumption during its first 7-8 years of life. The luxury cuvee (100% Merlot), which comes from a five acre parcel cropped at 20 hectoliters per hectare, is bottled unfined and unfiltered after 33 months in 100% new oak.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, March 2006 89/91

Aromas of blackberry and dark chocolate follow through to medium- to full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a long finish. Very well done.
